This edition of the Index includes more raw data than ever before, introducing new estimates of AI training costs, detailed analysis of the responsible AI landscape, and a brand new chapter dedicated to AI’s impact on science and medicine. The AI Index reports track, collate, distill, and visualize data related to artificial intelligence (AI). Our mission is to provide unbiased, rigorously vetted, and widely sourced data so that policymakers, researchers, executives, journalists, and the public have a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the complex field of AI. The AI Index is recognized globally as one of the most reliable and authoritative sources of AI data and insights. Previous editions have been cited by major newspapers such as The New York Times, Bloomberg, and The Guardian, accrued hundreds of academic citations, and cited by senior decision-makers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, among others. This year’s edition exceeds all previous ones in size, scope and reach, reflecting the growing importance of artificial intelligence in all our lives.
